Question

Captivate 2 and 3 on one machine

Hello,

I've Captivate 2 installed on my computer. After starting the setup of Captivate 3 the installer says that the old version has to be removed before installing.
The problem is that we have several old projects made with CP2 and the output for flashplayer 6. Some of these files need an update from time to time and I can't use CP3 for this, because the output is flash7 or higher, and the customer doesn't have this "newer" player.
Is there a possibility to install both versions parallel on one computer?

Thanks & best regards
Holger

yeah the license says something like ... you now have a license for the new
version, so you agree not to use the old one.

Frankly, that is not a practical option for many tools where you need to
maintain older files. If you really need to use both versions, which is not
uncommon, you could try the following.

Install Virtual PC (free download from Microsoft) and create a new virtual
machine. Install Captivate 2 to that virtual machine instead of to your main
    machine.

I also use this method to give me 'clean' machines to test on and to enable
me to install trial and beta software without damaging my main work machine.

    Hi Holger

I'm guessing that you purchased an upgrade version of Captivate and not a simple out and out stand alone version. I know it seems weird, but with an upgrade, you normally have to uninstall the older version as part of the process. The same situation arises with Adobe RoboHelp.

    Cheers... Rick
