Question

captivate 2 needed features

i don't know how to get in contact with any adobe developers for feature input so i hope someone reading this does...

1) when importing PPT slides, the slides become virtual screenshots, bloating the SWF tremendously. a 72Kb, 30 slide, PPT file can easily become several megs. i always end up manually editing the FLA by putting the repeating PPT background image/graphic on a different layer so it only appears 1 time dramatically bringing down the filesize. can the captivate importer determine what the PPT background is and just make it different object than the text?

2) separate the background images from the PPT text/content. the static images that are produced after importing at PPT presentation are not editable. replacing snapshot after snapshot of static images with my point #1 and this would cut down on filesize. importing animations might be a nice bonus, but i'd rather have the text & placeable images :)

3) a way to pause the slide until a button click (and/or spacebar press, arrow keys pressed) i usually have to again go in and do this manually and it's time consuming.

i really like captivate and i hope to see its functions streamlined. can anyone tell me if some these features are already in captivate2?
thanks

Adobe developers? The link you want, I think, is right here. That link will take you to the Wish List and Bug Report form if that is your desire.

But I'm having trouble understanding your problem here, so maybe you can try again to tell us what your issue is? You seem confused by what Captivate's purpose is - what it can and cannot do - and I'd say what you might need most is an understanding of Captivate basics.

From your post, I think you are using Captivate 1.0.1 to redo some PowerPoint presentations and are having a problem with the merged backgrounds and other PPT objects during import ... if so, there is no cure other than to redo the PPT so that captions, bullets, etc. are already separated when imported. During import, Captivate merges all objects on the Power Point slide into the background for that slide. There are no options with that behavior.

Also, it sounds like Captivate is to be only an intermediate step in your development cycle - your reference "editing the FLA" - seems to imply that you are taking the imported PPT into Flash (since Captivate does not generate a FLA file). It's not a good idea to edit Captivate files in Flash, so if your goal is to convert Power Point presentations to SWF format, you might be happier using another "Power Point-to-SWF" application specifically designed for that task - instead of Captivate.

Your 3rd point seems to be asking how to use a click-box or button to pause, then resume the play of a Captivate movie. You might benefit from watching the tutorial movie included with your Captivate installation. It is located in the far-right column on the main UI, and is labeled " Interactivity".

As a matter of fact, my advice based on the wording in your post is to watch all six (6) of the tutorial movies, then come back and let us know if you have other questions. That might clarify (for you) the basic uses and functions of Captivate, and help you more in the long run.

Welcome to the Captivate User Community, "friendofthepenguin". I can't help with whether or not features that you want are included in Captivate 2.0 because I really am confused by what your problem is -what you are trying to do and how you are trying to do it.
