Captivate 2017 slows down significantly when adding a pre-test question

Captivate 2017 for a project with Post-test and Knowledge Test questions. I add a Pretest question, which is followed by a slide with a menu of four buttons. From there, I can click a button that goes to the Post-test introduction slide. On that slide, you click a button to go to the next slide where the test begins. Without a pretest question, the button that takes me to the post-test is instantaneous, but when I add one pretest question at the top, it then becomes a 2 - 3 second delay to start the test. The delay gets worse when I add other content in the slide, maxing out at about 8 seconds. How can I avoid that delay?
