What I execute the create software simulation in 2017...the software simulation dialog box appears and my captivate screen disapears.  When I try to end the simulation with the "End" key...captivate does not return.  I have to kill the session.  I'm a newB...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Captivate is a beast of a program - it takes significant system resources. It's responsiveness is very dependent on your system specs.

So for situations where it seems to be unresponsive, sometimes just...wait.

Try your situation and when you press End...go to lunch.

Has it resumed when you come back? If so, it's likely a resource issue and you can try again with shorter wait and see how long it takes...and see if you can improve any aspect of your system.

If it just freezes...well, still could be a system issue.

here are the recommended specs for 2017. Take these as absolute minimum > more is better.

Adobe Captivate system requirements

You really want 8gb RAM at minimum, ideally an SSD drive, and solid video performance.

Thanks Erik. Our std footprint for desktop here is 32gb...all with SSD.

My desktop has 64gb as I also do massive 3D simulation with our PLM tools.

I waited overnight after attempting to create my last software simulation

with captivate. If it is this big of a hog...maybe we need to start

looking at other options for our eLearning tools.

Thanks again.

Good luck when searching for another tool. Concurrent tools need manually creation of screenshots and stitching them together to create a simulation.

Which type of applications are you recording? Which OS, I see details of your systems but no mention of the OS, nor a graphics card. If you are on Win, do you Run CP as Administrator? For recording that is essential. Please never use a second monitor for to be recorded application neither.

Are you recording very long simulations? I tend to break them up in smaller chunks for the recording, and also separate the visual recording and the audio (VO). Management is better, and you can always insert more recording slides. Whenever possible I try to avoid the FMR-slides (Full Motion Recording). If that is not possible, I will stop the recording and capture a Video Demo slide instead of the (old) FMR slide for quality reason. That is indeed where Captivate needs an improvement: it should be easier to replace FMR by CPVC-slides.
