Ok, this is definitely dumb, but I just cannot figure out why I cannot select a "Separate Style" in the table of contents. The option is greyed. I already selected different skin, etc, and nothing. 
Because you probably are creating a responsive projects. Due to the limited space on small screens (especially the width on portrait screens) only the TOC in Overlay is possible for those projects.
