Dear All,

As of this morning when I tried to use the text to speech in Captivate 2017 ... it always defaults to Agnes (terrible voice). I can't use any other voice listed. First time it happened. I have reinstalled the voice package .. to no avail. Never happened with Captivate 9, which I still have and that can still use the voice Bridget (or others ..). Can anybody help or tell me who to contact to have an answer? Should I reinstall Captivate 2017?

I am on Mac Book Air OS X 11 latest updates. I have restarted the computer and checked the HD for errors .. all checks out.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Luca

OMG I feel your pain.

Ive been using Captivate since version 6. I am a teacher as well and have had the same frustrations with Adobe support not knowing how to resolve challenges for a program that they wrote. There are also issues and bugs with CP that have been around for 5+ years and still aren't resolved in this latest version of Captivate. Sorry, but its true.

I have found, as previously stated, that RW and L are probably the very best help and support out there for any challenges you may face with Captivate. I would recommend reaching out to them on this forum before you contact Adobe support for Captivate.

Unfortunately, Adobe really doesn't know a lot about the application. However, Adobe support does always try their hardest with the resources made available to them whenever I call. I feel their just somewhat limited in this particular application and its knowledge.

But this is a rant for another time.

My recommendation is to remove and re-install CP10. I am using it on a mac with same IOS as you with no issues so far and I have been using the extra installed voices. Only two I use are Paul and Kate. The others sound too much like Stephen Hawking .

*TIP: Use a lot of commas for any natural pauses when you type in your text for the speech file.  It makes a HUGE improvement to the way the speech compiler reads the text in your sound file.

Anyways, you can also try calling Adobe support. That's what I normally do when I run into technical issues and Captivate. But Rod Ward and Lilybiri know way more about Adobe Captivate than anyone at the end of Adobe's support line. You can try messaging either of them or wait until they reply here. They are pretty quick at responding to people.

Hope that helps you.

First of all thank you for the suggestion . I was hoping to avoid that step. Believe it or not now it's working again .. but I have no idea why (as I did not understand while the voices stopped working before). I contacted Adobe Support via chat .. and besides the re-install suggestion or "erase the preferences" .. they seem to have no clue on what is actually going on. I have the same problem with Captivate (9 and 10) not recognizing the existence of Microsoft Office on my Mac anymore (for a while they did, then they didn't and then nothing). In addition Adobe Support says that C10 should work only on Sierra .. which evidently (and you confirm) it's not true. Sorry for venting .. my frustration is having to pay for this software that is (in my humble opinion) full of bugs [and it has been for years] which Adobe does not care to investigate at depth to fix. Unfortunately being a meager teacher .. I can't afford the other more expensive alternatives. Again appreciated you taking the time to answer this question. I know of RW and L, and I received answers from L in the past (the office problem) .. however as I said before .. nobody seems to know WHY these things happen, and does not seem possible to run AC into some sort of developer mode so to generate a log that software engineers can examine to troubleshoot. Unfortunately I can't ship my computer to Adobe so that they can take their time and look, I need it to work. I guess I'll have to live with that .. or make enough money so to be able to buy something else PS I selected Bridget .. because as someone once said .. everything sounds smart when spoken with a British accent
