Captivate 3 to Flash CS3 Problem

Hi

I am trialling v3 and just been trying out the export to Flash CS3 option which seems problematic - no images seems to be exported.

On the exporting progress screen I am getting a 508 error - not supported, Flash CS3 opens and I have some assets but no images

Anyone know how to fix this?

Also is it not possible to export individual slides to Flash? It would make editting in Flash a whole lot easier than having 1 big timelime.

Thanks

Kevin

I am also having this problem, with versions 1 and 2 and mx2004 no problem, now with cs3 and captiate 3 I get blank screeens and a lot of times just a plain error message from flash cs3. I bought both these programs just for this purpose. Because I want to get my captivate files into my video editing Final Cut Pro. and to do this I have to have a swf file that is flash 5 compatible. that is what the video editing will allow for import. And still retain the uncompressed graphics look.

If any one has some insight to this. Or can aleart Adobe. I have tried it on 4 different computers and compared captivate 1 2 and 3 and mx2004 and Flash Cs3.

It appears only a problem with the new captivate 3 and Flash Cs3?

Kevin, I found your last reply so well thought out and concisely delivered that I've forwarded this thread to a friend who is in the chain-of-command at Adobe. Hopefully they will read it and pass it on up the chain so that someone will eventually put your thoughts (and mine, as I totally agree with you) into action and get some better cross-program compatibility into the ex-Macromedia product group.

I'll try to post back here if I get a specific response to my communication with my Adobe friend - but be aware that I am just a user like yourself, so I may get a response, or I may not.

Have a good day, and again, thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Hi Larry

No I am not a Flash developer, just looking for an option to have a little programmability in Captivate.

I have just spent a few months looking at options for producing learning apps - desktop or CD/DVD delivery rather than the web. I had settled on Arthoware but then Adobe announced they were not going to continue with this anymore. They suggest Flash, Captivate or Director as alternatives But Flash is great for web, not great for desktop or CD/DVD (distributing swf files not a good idea as they are too insecure), Captivate has no programmability and Director has little or no question/learning objects. So really no alternative to Arthorware.

My view based on a very quick look at Captivate is that one way may be to build individual scenes in Flash and then import these into Captivate slides. No control over program flow or writing to file, etc though.

I had a feeling integration would be an issue, the ex-Macromedia products were/are good but all built using different languages - Flash/Actionscript, Director/Lingo and Arthorware had yet another language. Hopefully Adobe will copy the guys at Microsoft and try to re-build the products on the same framework all using the same programming language, then we may have consistence and better integration

Yours

Hi Kevin,
It sounds like you might be a Flash developer who is thinking of Captivate a s a new tool for Flash development. Bad idea. Very bad idea. So if your purpose in testing it is to see if you can use it as a "add-in" to Flash, be warned you will (not may but will) be disappointed.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a tool to create and output tutorial content in Flash (SWF) format, Captivate is a great product on its own.

Are you bringing the Captivate source into Flash's stage, or parts to the library? As a rule I've had better luck ignoring the "export" function in Captivate entirely. When someone holds a gun to my head to force me to open Captivate source in Flash, I create a "new" Flash document, then use Flash's "File > Import > >Captivate CP > to Stage" to import the content to Flash. I say that advisedly, because the last time I did this was with Captivate 2 - into Flash 8. I have Captivate 3 but not CS3, so haven't tried with that version yet.

Sorry I can't give you more concrete help with the export to CS3, Kevin, but I hope the information is helpful anyway.
