Captivate 3 - Weirdness, runs but then doesn't

Just had Captivate 3 installed on a new machine.  The new machine is running Windows 7 64 bit, just like my last one which ran C3 just fine.  When IT was doing the install, they told me they needed to install something (a patch?) in order for it to run on Windows 7, something that no one mentioned when it was installed on my previous machine.

So, I gave it a test this morning and got some very strange behavior.  The program opened like normal and gave me the usual window for selecting my recording settings.  When I clicked "record", this window disappeared completely.  As I recall, this window previously stayed on screen as I did the recording and I clicked in it to stop the recording.  Now, it just goes away and I can't figure out how to stop recording at all.  The Captivate icon appears in the tray, but when I click it, it doesn't bring back the recording dialog box - it launches Captivate again in a new window.  This second incarnation behaves the same as the first, disappearing without a trace when I try to start recording.  After trying to get it to work a few times, I brought up the task manager and found Captivate running as three separate processes, though none could be seen anywhere on my desktop.

Sending this down to IT to get it fixed, but I'd love to be able to point them in the right direction.  Has anybody experienced anything like this who could suggest a fix?  My thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi there

I'm sure this will cause you despair, but the only way I ever managed to coax any version of Captivate earlier than 5 to run on Windows 7 64 bit was to install the Windows XP virutal machine and run it inside that.

I believe Rod Ward is one of the fortunate few that is able to run Captivate 4 on Windows 7 64 bit, but my hat's off to him for making it work. Certainly fails for me. Even when I tried his suggestions.

You may find it's simply time to upgrade.

    Cheers... Rick

    Rick,

I run CP4 as well on my laptop with Win7 64-bit without any trouble. Just FYI

Oh, Lieve!  Just when I was about to throw in the towel, you gotta go and give me hope.  God only knows how long I'll bang my head against this problem now!
