Captivate 4 and SumTotal 7.2 - SCORM Template

Hello!

I'm hoping someone has what I'm looking for.  Up until last week, we had been using Andrew C's SCORM template with Captivate 3 to publish courses to our SumTotal LMS (version 7.2). Everything worked beautifully!

Now, we've updated to Captivate 4 and are trying to use the same template with Andrew's override behavior, but when we do, it disables any right-click's that we use in the simulation. It also disables the use of variables.

I tried copying Andrew's override variables and functions to the new Captivate 4 template and I can get everything to work correctly except the right-click. Am I missing something? Or does anyone know if Andrew has released a revised SCORM publishing template compatiable with Captivate 4?

*The template we have override's SumTotal's rather annoying urge to prompt for completion before the end of the course.

I have attached the Captivate 3 template we were using, and the one I tried to create for Captivate 4. Any assistance in getting the Captivate 4 one to play nicely with right-click would be great!

Thanks,

Kristy

Kristy,

I am afraid that I do not have an answer, but rather a question for you.  Other than right-clicking, you have found the Cap 4 SCORM template below to work well with SumTotal?  I am currently trying to get Cap 4 to publish correctly to SumTotal, and most of my experience is with AICC.  It has been failing miserably.  I thought about SCORM, and I was glad to see your post.  We have no immediate need for right-clicking, so this template may work well for us.

Here's my SCORM newbie question.  What process do you go through to publish a simulation using this template?  Do you do a standard SCORM publish, and then replace the html file with the one you included?  And what are the pieces of information you have to include in that file to get it to work?

Sorry, I know this was not what you were looking for, but your help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Fred

No worries Fred!

Yes we find it to work exceptionally well for us. It prevents that annoying little pop-up window from showing up early (now it only shows when we try to close the course). It also ensure that if users close out early or fail that their transcript is marked Incomplete instead of a more permanent FAIL.

We explored AICC as well, but our SumTotal liason suggested that SCORM works better with SumTotal so we have been using that ever since.

First, place that Captivate4 template in the C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Captivate 4\Templates\Publish\SCORM\1_2  folder.

To publish for SumTotal you have to set the publish to LMS settings to SCORM, chose the Captivate4 template, then click the Manifest button and use the following settings:

- Scorm Version - 1.2

- Enter a title, identifier, and description. The identifer shows up as your course code when it's uploaded into the LMS.

- Enter an identifier and title for the SCO as well. I recommend you set a mastery score here as well and Click OK.

Set the Report Status to Pass/Fail; Report to LMS as Percent; Choose Report Data: Quiz Results only; Reporting Level: Interactions and Score. Click the LMS Customization Settings button and check Never send Resume Data. Uncheck Escape Version and Session ID and click OK. Click OK to close the Pereferences window.

When you publish, click the Zip files checkbox.

Then when you go into SumTotal, login as an admin and select Learn > Upload > Browse to your published zip file and follow the steps to upload the course.

You are AWESOME!

That worked perfectly.  I really appreciate your help!!!  I hope I am able to return the favor sometime.  I'll keep an eye on this post to see if the right-click issue is addressed, but this should meet our needs well for now.

One more small question, if you don't mind.  How do you deal with versioning with SCORM in SumTotal?  Do you create a parent activity, and then nest the simulation activites under it?  My concern is about making updates to SCORM simulations once published.  Doesn't SumTotal force you to create an entirely new activity?  Anything you can share about how you manage versions will be greatly appreciated.  Thanks!
