Question

Captivate 4 / Vista / Photoshop CS4

Hi,

I've read previous forum threads and find it hard to believe that I cannot use Photoshop CS4 to edit backgrounds successfully - as seems to be the case. I follow all the steps - right-click > edit with photoshop (or "edit with.." and choose Photoshop) - change the image, save as BMP - same filename, same flat file, - and back in Captivate, it says "This image cannot be updated" and won't change the display. Which is totally puzzling at this point, because the image has been saved and is different when you open it in Photoshop. Why is this so hard? Sometimes it seems like 'import' migth work / sometimes 'update' / sometimes it works when I close Captivate, then open it again. But that didn't work with the second image I tried to do this with. Am I seriously reduced to using MSPaint as my editor? I have the Adobe eLearning SUITE, - shouldn't the products all work together? This is so frustrating.

    Hello,

Could you explain more in detail your workflow? I have been editing backgrounds in Photoshop and never had this problem? When importing images from Photoshop I always optimize them to PNG, not to BMP. But the roundtrip in CP4 should take care of it.

    Hi,

It looks like there is something really strange going on. Just had a colleague come look at this with me. The workflow 'worked' on the first image i did it with, but not on the second image.

    1. right-click, choose edit with photoshop

    2. make a change (no PS work, just pixel edits)

    3. click save in photoshop (no save as, no changes to BMP file - NOTE -the lib images have been renamed and exported and reimported, so they all have 'fixed' normal names

    4. close photoshop

    5. in captivate, right-click image, choose Update - worked on first image. Then on this one, something got corrupted and it refused to update - "this item cannot be updated"

It looks like if we edit the images OUTside of Captivate, and THEN do the Update - so far that is working. ... This will have to be my work-around for now?

I also had before the issue where the library window was blank and had to reset the captivate_040 'DAT' file. New to Captivate and so far I am not too happy

Is this just a corrupt project I'm working in and I should start over?

    Is this a Vista issue?

    Any thoughts?

Editing outside of Captivate didn't work either - just tried that again. Looks like the issue is Saving a BMP file in Photoshop (sometimes not always.) This is making me crazy. Looks like I really just need to stay away from Photoshop, but I wish I knew why and that I didn't have to.
