Question

Captivate 5 - Can't get timeline to stay paused on slide.

The first slide in my project no matter if I put a click box or a button the slide will pause briefly where it supposed to then it starts up again. I want the slide to stay paused till the user clicks the button or clickbox. This will also "sometimes" happen to the second slide as well.

I have other slides in the same project where they pause fine on preview then on publish (swf) they do the pause then restart issue I mentioned above and it will also do vice versa where the preview wont work but the publish works fine. If I preview only the next 5 slides it works...sometimes. I also have some slides that work perfect.

The results seem to change every time I run a preview or publish to swf, this makes troubleshooting very difficult.

I have tried so many variations and combinations to find any semblance of consistency that I have lost track.

What is the deal with this software? I have never used a more inconsistent product in my life.

Any ideas?

Duplicate your first slide, go to slide 1, remove alll interactions

etc. set slide to play for 1 second. problem solved

I tried that in the spirit of troubleshooting and it didn't work. Slide 2 was affected by the pausing issue as well. Actually when I tried this slides 2 and 3 still had the problem. It basically ignored any interactions/pauses on slides till it came to the first slide video at which point the timeline paused and stayed put.

Have you tried setting the vid files to only start after about 1s into the slide??

I have nailed down what "is" cusing the issue. I have 8 slides at the end of my project that each have an f4v video. I remove those slides and my original issue magically dissapears.

I actually created an entire separate project as a test with just those 8 video slides and an intro slide with 8 links to each of the 8 video slides and I get the same issue of the first slide not staying paused. Just to clarify these are not "Slide Video" they are slides with inserted f4v videos. I have 9 other "Slide Videos" and they are present in the version without issues mentioned in the first sentence of this post.

This is the first thing I have found to have consistent results (albeit erroneous) so I am wagering the f4v slides are the problem.

@Vikranth: I will try and email you the file I am talking about in this post as my original one is about 125mb. It has the same issue though.

After almost 2 full days on this I think I have it figured out.

The inserted f4v videos I mentioned earlier were set to "display for rest of slide" I reduced the slide length to 3 sec and set the f4v videos to display for 3 sec with a button pausing the slide at 1.5 sec.

I still have more testing to do but it seems now that the first slide pausing issue is now fixed and the videos still play as I need them to.

Not exactly sure why having the f4v videos set to display for rest of slide would cause the first slide to not stay paused but that seems to be the case here.

I will post any other useful details as I work through full testing.

Subsequently, what I thought was a separate issue I had with the same f4v videos not auto-rewinding after they completed has been resolved as well with the modifications I mentioned in my previous post.

Not sure how this will affect those who need the functionality of "displaying video for rest of slide" but for me thankfully I do not need it for this project.

    Everything seems peachy....for now.

    Hi,

Is it possible to share the project, so that we can investigate the issue from our end?

You can e-mail me to my e-mail id vikranth@adobe.com.

    Thanks,

    Vikranth.
