Captivate 6 freezes when opening variables window

Hi there,

I have to say I'm getting pretty annoyed with how buggy Captivate 6 has turned out to be. It seems to crash a lot of the time (when opening a project or after publishing)  and often publishes with lots of red boxes in place of my images (even when setting my quality setting to high). Even so,  I can work around this by emptying the cache, restarting my computer etc however I can't seem to work around this latest bug!

For some reason, captivate keeps crashing when I try to open the variables window (through both the top menu and via the advanced actions window). I've tried emptying my cache and restarting my computer with no luck.

I also have captivate 5.5 installed, so I tried opening the variables window in this and it worked ok, but again, captivate 6 froze when I went back to try it again.

Has anyone else had this issue before and is there a way to stop it happening? I am running windows 7.

Many thanks in advance

Rick

    Hi Rick,

Try to recreate Captivate 6 preferences. Then launch Captivate 6 as Run as Admin

If the above suggestion did not work, then install Captivate 6 in a new admin account and test the bheavior of Captivate 6.

    Hope it helps

    Thanks and Regards

    Thanks both for your suggestions.

I deleted the Captivate 6 preferences first and then restarted Captivate 6 as admin and this worked. For those that don't know, the Captivate 6 preferences are tricky to find. For Windows 7 they're at the folder C:/Users/(username)/AppData/Local/Adobe/Captivate 6.0. Also my AppData folder is being shown as a hidden folder so you might need to change some setting before it shows.

Rod - this is also a possibility as I have been working on a dual monitor, and the problem was occuring when I was using a single monitor. I'll bear that in mind for the future.

    Thank you both again.

Here's another thought...Have you been working on a dual monitor setup at all recently?  If so, open Cp6 and open your Variables window.  When Captivate appears to freeze and become unresponsive, hit the ESCAPE key.  Does this get Captivate back?  If so, then your issue is that Captivate 6 thinks your Variables dialog is open in that other monitor and until you drag it back over the Cp6 screen again, you won't be able to see it.  You may need to hook up a second monitor again with the same LEFT/RIGHT orientation setup before you'll be able to correct this.
