Captivate 7 file won't open in Captivate 9

I'm trying to open a course that was developed in Captivate 7. I have Captivate 9. I get a status bar that Captivate is "Opening Project...Loading project" but it stops loading at 80% and will not open the file. The file is 69.4 MB.

I've tried opening the application first and then the file, I've tried double-clicking on the file to open it and I've tried right-clicking and using Open With and it still will not load and open.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think Lieve is on the right track with this.  You will ONLY be able to confirm that the file is NOT corrupted by getting someone with Cp7 to open it first.  If that works, then the file SHOULD open in Cp9, but there may be some component on one of the slides that is not compatible.  Your only solution then is to use a process of elimination to find the glitch.  But that's still going to require working with someone that has Cp7.

If on the other hand it won't open in Cp7 either, then nothing you do in Cp9 will make a difference.

I have the opposite. Two members of our team have upgraded to Captivate 9, but our approver still has Captivate 7. He is unable to open any files we send him. Is there a resolution for this, or must he upgrade to 9? Thanks

No other solution than upgrading to CP9.

Captivate is BACKWARD compatible because you can open files from earlier versions.  But it is not FORWARD compatible because earlier versions of Captivate cannot open files from later versions.

As Lieve suggested, your approver needs to upgrade.  Alternatively, if all he needs to do is view the content, perhaps you can just send him published versions to view as either Word document handouts, or self-running EXE files,

There may be just one particular slide in the project that is fouling things up.

Make several copies of your Cp7 file and then delete out different groups of slides, starting from the END of the project.  (I'm guessing that if the import to Cp9 fails at 80% then the issue is likely to be with one of the later slides.

See if you can open any of these Cp7 files that are missing some slides.  If you get lucky, that should tell you in which group of slides the gremlin is hiding.  Then make more copies of the original project but just deleting one slide at a time until you find which one is causing this issue.

When you finally have your project in Cp9, rebuild the missing slide from scratch.

    Hi RodWard,

    Thanks I'll look into this!

The project was very slow on captivate 7 so I think I'll just rebuild the whole project in captivate 9.

    Best regards,

Do you still have CP7 installed?

No. I'm a contractor and this is a client file.
