Captivate 7 projects editable with version 10?

It seems like I need to ask this question every couple of years.  My IT folks are reluctant to upgrade too often (despite the fact that we're supposed to be subscribed to the rolling releases.)  Therefore, we're still at version 7.  I've now got the opportunity to upgrade to version 10, but only if importing quizzes created in version 7 would not require too much re-work.  The quizzes were created using one of the themes available in 7, with no additional advanced actions/js, etc.  Anybody done this and can verify that nothing major gets broken in the process?

Before anybody asks the question.... I'm not looking to go the other direction in order to pull version 10 files into 7.  Always forward, never back <g>.

    Overall you should be fine, however certain objects may need to be recreated. Usually upgrading between adjacent versions isn't a problem but you're skipping a few versions.

    My experience is that I am still able to open all my old Adobe Captivate 7 projects with 2017 release. I recommend that when you open the old project, save the converted file to a new file name rather than saving on top of the old file. This way you will still have the original Cp7 project file in case something doesn't convert over and isn't obvious right away.

    Themes might be problematic. You may have to select a new theme once in Captivate 2017 as each release comes packaged with different themes.

    Paul_Wilson and RodWard;

               Thanks to both of you for your replies.  It's encouraging to hear that I shouldn't run into any issues with this.  Slightly modifying a new theme to use for this project shouldn't be too onerous.  Losing my entire question bank(s) would be.

    The joys of working for the gub'mint:  The system I'm on has no access to the "interwebs", folks with admin access are extremely limited, software upgrades have to be "engineered" to install remotely across half the country, and you have to find umpteen other folks who absolutely need the same upgrades to make it all worthwhile.

    Not that I'm complaining... I've got a job and a paycheck <g>.

    Thanks again.  I'll give my management the good news, and ask for them to vote "yes" on my behalf.

    I have a bit of bad news to report...Yesterday, when performing final testing of these upgraded Cp7 to Cp 2017 modules, I found a couple of issues that you may need to be aware of.

    It seems that any quiz questions that use the Fill-in-the-Blank or Matching question type will need to be removed from your project and replaced by other quiz questions.  In my project modules I found that these two quiz question types caused issues when published to HTML5.  What was happening was that the published output would simply stop working one or two slides AFTER the first of either of these quiz questions encountered in the quiz.  It took me some hours to identify exactly which ones were causing the issue because the quiz slide itself worked fine.  The issue seemed to be related to other question types.  But in the end I found that the real culprits were the Fill-in-the-blanks and Matching questions.  Once they were removed, the quizzes were able to successfully complete.

    On balance, I don't know whether the issue in my own project is due to the fact that I jumped straight from Cp7 to Cp 2017.  Perhaps if I had upgraded first to Cp8, then Cp9 before Cp 2017 things would have been better.  I don't know.  All I know is that this is a significant issue you need to be aware of.  Replacing the offending quiz question types with others is the fastest fix.

    Thanks, RodWard.  Am I to understand that matching questions won't work at all in 2017?  IOW, deleting the old matching questions and replacing with new matching in 2017 won't solve the problem?  I can work around that, but would rather not <g>.

    Paul's advice is all good (as usual).

    As luck would have it, I have just been updating a project I created in Captivate 7 back in 2014 and have updated it to Cp 2017 without major issues.  Since the client now wants the course to be published in HTML5 rather than SWF, that move has necessitated a lot more re-work because any SWF components needed to be stripped out and replaced.  But other than that, things have gone quite smoothly.  Hopefully your experience will be similar.

    If you are unsure, just install a trial version of Cp 2017 and experiment with a couple of projects.  Either way though, you REALLY need to be upgrading to the current version of CP as once you get more than a few versions behind your chances of getting any support start to become minimal.
