Captivate 8 crashes using Generate Speech on Mac/Yosemite

Created a project in English with generated speech. No problem! Used the export and import to Word function for French translation purposes. Duped the project to create French version and re-imported text (no problems). When I tried to generate speech using Chloe some (not all -more than half of 25 slides) crashes the software. No error message.

Things that I've done:

- uninstalled and re-installed

- upgraded to v.8.0.1.242

- cleared the cache (utility folder/captivate)

- have tried to generate using other voice types ie: Paul (Would work then use Chloe then crash/ Not all instances worked... crashed using Paul as well)

Very frustrating!

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

EUREKA!!!! Good ole Microsoft (insert sarcasm).

I was importing my French text from a Wordv document (copy/paste) then realized this might be a formatting issue. I saved the document as a .txt file removing all formatting. Then I copy/pasted the problem sentences that were not generating and re-tried! Problem solved!!

Well done!

In general, Captivate does not appreciate any text from Word via copy and paste. I've sporadically encountered this with PowerPoint, as well. In short, if Cp asks if you want to 'paste with formatting,' the answer should be 'No.'

It will cause havoc with alignment, formatting, spacing, etc. inside your Captivate file.

You would think the worst case it may cause a crash, but at least a crash gives immediate feedback.

The worst case is that it doesn't crash immediately, but silently corrupts the file.

Ensure you have Captivate backups enabled, you save to your local drive, and you make copies (outside of Cp) of the working files to another drive. Save your word files as text, open in another application, and copy and paste from the text only file.

I've learned this lesson over and over!

You tried to generate Text to Speech using the Chloe voice and the French translation, right?

My guess is that Captivate crashed because of the French characters.

You should be able to test this theory by just taking some French text and copying it into the Slide Notes area of a new blank project file then use those  notes as TTS speech.  If that also crashes Captivate then you have your answer.

Like I said, some did generate and they included accents.  Very bizarre!
