Captivate 8 Drag and Drop multiple text captions for Feedback

Hi,

I'm trying to create an interaction with one item which the learner can drag to four different images representing different categories of data classification.  The idea of the interaction is for the learner to learn about each of the four different categories by trial and error.    I want them to be provided with feedback via text captions regardless of whether the answer is right or wrong but each piece of feedback will need to be different and the user needs to be able to drag the item multiple times until they have figured out the right answer.  I can't fwork out how to do this.

I've only upgraded to Captivate 8 in the last week, having used Captivate 5 previously.   As such, I have never used the drag and drop facility and I don't know if it will do what I'm trying to achieve or if it is something that I could achieve with advanced actions instead or whether it just isn't possible to do. I have tried searching for similar topics but either didn't understand the answer or the scenarios seemed different.  I don't really know where everything is yet in Captivate 8 and, whilst I have used some advanced actions in Captivate 5,  I'm not that confident with them, so simple is good.  The interaction does not need to be reported on.

Is anyone able to help me please?

Thanks in advance for your help.

    Hi,

As per my understanding you have one source item which can be dragged and dropped on 4 different targets(different images). For every drop some kind of caption should show up on stage giving the feedback to the user about the source target matching. (Correct me if i am wrong)

This can be achieved with Drag and drop interaction.

1.Insert the source 4 times and overlap them on each other(Since you can drag and drop 1 item 4 times you need to have that item to work as 4 drag source so 4 items ).

2.Make the 4 items as Drag source and group them as a single type.(Using Add to option)

3.You have your 4 images on stage and Mark them as Drag targets.

4.Insert the feed back captions and place them near their targets. Turn off thier "Visible in Output" flag on PI.

5.Now match the Correct ans on stage.i.e From one of the source type to a correct ans target.

6.Select each target and Open their "Object Actions" dialog box. (from Drag and drop panel)

7.Uncheck "Accept all" option and let the count value be 1.Now under Drag source Type add the "drop action" to Show their Feedback captions.(which were hidden). This should be through "Advanced Actions".

8.Now After doing for every target open the "Correct Ans" dialog box from Drag and drop panel.(it will be under options and visible if any of the source or target is selected)

9.Here under the table you can see the count value is 4. here reduce the value to 1.(double click on it to change)

Now you interaction is ready. Please do reply if this is what you wanted to achieve and if you have not got any of the above steps.

Devraj, do I understand this correctly 'overlap'? I didn't test it, but in the past you could never have overlapping objects for D&D. Can you tell if that has changed in CP8?

I agree with using the Actions to show the appropriate feedback, but I strongly recommend not to use simple actions but advanced standard actions to avoid that the play head will be released.

@Lieve :Nothing is changed for cp8 as of Drag and drop is concerned except the UI. I suggested overlap in the sense that the User must feel that there is only one drag Item which could be dragged. but the slide should have 4 items of the same type. If they "Overlap" sources (which are duplicate of each other) and make them as a single source type , the slide will look as if we a single source. And for the correct answer any of the four could be dragged to the target.

Overlapping dissimilar sources is not a best practice as you mentioned. I completely agree with you. User has to use "Advanced Actions" for showing feed back captions and Not Simple actions.
