Captivate 8 UI not displaying or working correctly

I recently replaced my computer (docked laptop) and monitor.  I have the laptop docked and am using the external monitor alone. I redownloaded and installed Captivate 8. The installation went well with no issues.

When I open the application, I see/have the following UI issues:

• The "big button" bar is totally missing.
• The Filmstrip, Timing, Position, Timeline, and Video Effects panels are stacked at the top left of the monitor (not the same as the top left of the Captivate window). They can be drug around and docked on each other (but not the application window).
• When I click Window > Align, the Align panel is locked to the top left corner of the monitor.
• Even after selection the Preferences option to allow custom workspaces, I am unable to do anything constructive with these panels.

Any option requiring the big button bar is totally impossible.

How can I get this interface to a state where I can work? Thanks in advance!
