Captivate 8 Won't Insert Interactive Learning Widgets

I've spent two days trying to get Captivate to allow me to insert a youtube video or allow use of other interactive learning widgets within Windows 8.1.  Mostly captivate runs fine otherwise and I can go 3-4 hours w/o any problems outside of the interactive learning widgets not being available...occasionally it might slow down for a few seconds, but generally no issues.

Note that captivate was installed as part of the latest TCS suite update.  Creative Cloud with just photoshop/lightroom is also installed.

Unfortunately, it hangs as soon as the widget is selected for insertion - not even giving the chance to customize the widgets.

What I've tried:

- Starting new projects with just one blank slide, clicking interactive learning, selecting youtube widget...(hang)

- Forcing run as administrator

- Forcing run with Win7 Compatibility Mode on

- Reinstalling the Adobe Learning Assets Package

- Adding local storage exceptions to the flash player

- Rebooting computer

- Clearing Cache

- Deleting local preferences folder

- Deleting other local captivate user settings folders and restarting

- Adding the adobe server ip addresses as allowed exceptions on the local firewall to ensure there isn't a network communication issue.

- Reinstalling Captivate

What I haven't tried yet:

- Reinstalling Windows (honestly, I'll just give up on Tech Comm Suite if this is the case..all I needed was framemaker and acrobat before which were available without subscription...I just thought using captivate would be helpful for some students I work with and it would make sense to have a continual subscription to the one suite with the products I use.)

- Disabling the OS firewall (it is ESET Endpoint Security which is relatively common for small business windows deployments that don't find norton/symantec/mcaffe worth paying for) or the builtin windows firewall sufficient.

You do run always as administrator? Is everything installed on your system, not on a networked drive? Are the projects and cache folders stored on your system as well (Check Preferences)?

Was this a fresh install of 8.0.1 (or 8.0.2, 8.1 doesn't exist) or an upgrade? Try to clear the Interactions_8_0 once more while Captivate is closed. When restarting CP a fresh copy will be installed there from the Gallery.

    Adobe Captivate version 8.0.1.242

    Always run as administrator? Yes.

Use of network drive? No, everything in my tests is done with local drive and with cache/project settings directories set for local default locations.

Fresh install from the latest TCS released last month, only change I've made is to modify shortcut to run as admin and with windows 7 compat mode on (doesn't seem to do anything different from what I can tell, tested with win7 compat on/off).

Interaction_8_0 clear - do you mean c:/program files/adobe/adobe captivate 8/Gallery/Interactions?  Testing moving this directory elsewhere and restarting captivate - create new blank project - save project - insert interaction - Interaction choices are reduced and seem to get less everytime captivate is restarted (now only 6 or so, any interaction that gets used is removed from available choices on next captivate restart ) - inserting interaction now seems to work sometimes, othertimes it crashes.  Not sure if using interaction is just causing it to crash within a few minutes and its just happening when I try to insert the next interaction on a different blank slide.

No I meant the copy in the Public documents, not in the Gallery.

Do you insert them with the Interactions button or using Insert, Widget? In the last case, be sure to browse to the Public documents folder

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\Adobe\eLearning Assets
