Captivate 9 Audio Record - Gets louder until it distorts

Hi! I'm using Adobe Captivate 9.0.0.223 with a USB Logitech headset with microphone. I just need an okay sounding recording for demo purposes and will invest in better equipment later (if necessary). I've tried changing the settings of the Recording Device in Windows. I have used Auto Calibrate and I've manually changed the calibration settings. Whatever settings I use the recording starts of at one level and then gets louder and louder until it clips the tops and bottoms of the audio and it sounds very distorted. I would greatly appreciate any guidance and hope it's something simple that I am overlooking. Many thanks! 🙂
