Captivate 9 does not record with Sennheiser Headset PC36

I have been using an older Logitech headset to record audio using different apps, (including Adobe Captive 9 videos) on my iMac (2016). When I decided to upgrade to a Sennheiser Headset PC36, suddenly I cannot record any audio to my Captivate 9 slides. I downloaded Soundflower as directed, and that did no good. I have talked to Adobe techs who say this is my problem, not a problem with Captivate. I disagree. Why does my Logitech headset (USB) record, but the Sennheiser with USB does not? The Sennheiser headset works fine with other apps.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Hey Sandy, Glad it worked out for you. I know this stuff cause I usually had the same problem at some time or another : ) It usually is something small like that. Happy Easter!

Hi Crosson,

Check to see if your Sennheisers can record to any other application? That will determine if its your hardware or not. If it can, check to see what the recording bit rate is, make sure its set to 16 Bit. It may be trying to record to 24 Bit in the proprietary Sennheiser software or drivers (if it came with any).

Cheers

Thanks Steve,

The Sennheiser is fine with other apps. I just tried PhotoBooth and iMovie.

The options for Bitrate in Captivate are

CD Bitrate (128kbps)

Custom (which cannot go lower than 32)

Near CD Bitrate (96kbps)

FM Bitrate (64kbps)

I was not supplied with a driver or driver link for the Sennheiser. Though I could just plug it in and go.....  Do I need to know the default bitrate in the Sennheiser? I am getting beyond my comfort level. I am just a teacher!  ;-)

Any other ideas?

Hi Crosson,

No worries, just ruling stuff out. Standard procedure when tracking down bugs. So if the headphones work in other apps it probably is specific to Captivate.

When you say you can't record, does that mean nothing happens when you speak into your mic, or it records, but it won't play back or Captivate can't find your new microphone at all ?

Does this screen register your new Mic in the Preferences > Settings > Audio Settings > Audio Input Device?

I have a Windows machine so it may be a tad different in a MAC.

Cheers
