Captivate 9 Fatal Error upon start

I am very new to Captivate. I've had it on my machine less than 2 months. I worked in October, but now I keep getting a fatal error message on start up. HOW CAN I FIX THIS? Do I need to uninstall and reinstall?  Or is there some other way? I need someone to walk me through it if possible because of course there's no help desk on the weekend...when my assignment is due.

I am running Windows 7 as admin. Ran the util app while Captivate was closed. All of my folder paths are locale to folders in My Documents. I can now run CP; however, the fatal error box is also open.

The fatal error dialog box also appears if I run CP as administrator.

My Documents can point to a network drive, but OK if you are sure it is on your system.

Something must be corrupt. Did you recently install new fonts?

You can also try to delete the Layouts and Interactions folder in Public Documents\Adobe\eLearning Assets. Those are duplicate folders, they will be created from the original folders in the CP installation folder when you restart CP.

Try this:

  1. Clear the cache, if you can get to the Welcome screen, you can use the button Clear Cache in Preferences, General settings. If nt, you have to do it manually, look for the folder Adobe Captivate Cached Projects.
  2. Clean the Preferences: in the subfolder 'utils' under the installation folder, look for the file CleanPreferences that fits your OS and run it.
  3. If you are on Win, be sure to Run As Administrator (right-click on the launch icon, you can find it in that menu).

I ran the utility to clear the cache. I didn't have an option in preferences to clear it. I can open the application and another window with the fatal error message opens also.

Suggestions?

I mentioned that to clean the Preferences you need to find a file 'CleanPreferences...' in the subfolder 'Utils' of the Captivate installation folder. Run that file (there is one for Win, one for Mac) while Captivate is closed.

Are you on Windows or Mac? Is CP installed on your system and do the paths to Publish at and Cache in Preferences point to folders on your system?  CP doesn't like networked folders.
