Captivate 9 image button state questions

On a page in a Captivate quiz I have 4 buttons that were made out of 4 images.

all 4 buttons have 3 states

up over and down

I need each button to go to the DOWN state when clicked.

Scenerio is

viewer hears audio and selects the correct image, when user clicks on any button image the button state will display in the DOWN STATE

if viewer changes mind and selects another one of the buttons the first button will go back to the upsate and the newly selected button will display the down state.

last part is there is a submit button ( separate ) so depending on which button viewer chose an image will appear eater correct or try again, follow?

    That is not the way buttons are designed. The InBuilt states (normal, rollover and down) are designed as in any other application with buttons: during interaction by the user. If you want to have a state remaining after the down action, you'll have to add a custom state and use an action to 'Change state of...'. Have a look at the work flow I used in this blog post:

    All toggle buttons got a 4th (custom) state that was turned on when the button is clicked. I never use the old 'image buttons', but shape buttons.

    I'm a bit concerned about your actions on question slides: are those default question slides? The buttons on question slides are different from normal buttons, they are embedded, have no separate timeline and have functionality built in. It is not possible to have the same level of control over those buttons.

    You bring up a good point as I used the artwork for all the slides and they are all blank slides with the same background in all. Any slides with questions I made buttons out of images as there are a few multiple choice equations. reason I brought up the down state was the client wanted the selected button in a darker color so the user knows which button he selected.personally I would have just had a three state button and when you click the action would have been other correct to incorrect. But the client insists that there is a submit button so that means I have to add conditions in variables and thats a whole other animal.

    But adding a state that is custom I think will do the trick but again I run into a lot of variables because if there are 4 answers to choose from and  client clicks button one and that button remains in the downstate I need to have a variable set to tell the submit button id the answer is right or wrong , a lot of work.

    Am I better off using the quiz slides and swapping the original images or text with the new images and or text, at least I won't have to go nuts with variables.

    any pointers?

    Do you say that all your question slides are custom question slides (in the sense that I blogged a lot about them)? I sincerely hope you are using shared actions, can decrease the work if set up correctly. Nevertheless, it is lot of work.

    Question slides have to be treated very cautiously, you cannot delete things etc... You can use another style for the Quiz buttons (use the Object Style manager), but those are the only buttons that can never be replaced by shape buttons (which is a shame).
