Captivate 9 keeps crashing

I have not used my Captivate 9 for a few months. I tried to launch today and it keeps crashing. I keep getting the message "Adobe Captivate has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."

I've tried several times to launch and it keeps happening. So, I uninstalled Captivate and then installed the trial version and installed with my subscription. After installation the same thing is happening. I am not having any other computer problems or problems with any other programs. Any ideas?

Thanks!

This is usually due to a conflict with some other application or update that has been installed on your computer in the interim since you last used Captivate.

If this is a Windows PC, you can look up the Event Logs that show everything that has happened, including any conflicts that resulted in app crashes.  Those event logs will often tell you the exact name of the DLL or file that caused the crash.  (Google for information on using the Windows Event Logs to located DLL conflicts.)

I had one some time ago that was causing Captivate to crash and it turned out to be a DLL in the System directory that was installed along with another app.  Once I uninstalled that app, Captivate started working again.

Another thing that sometimes causes this issue is corrupted fonts.  Search for info on this forum about how to locate the corrupted font and remove it.

One of my users also kept having Captivate immediately crash upon launch.  I performed the routine recommended actions without success (run CleanPreferencesWin.bat), delete files in Public Documents/Adobe/eLearning Assets, relaunch Captivate, Set preferences to store cache locally, etc)  But I did discover that Captivate was trying to  access C:\Windows\System32\msvcr0110.dll.  This dll was also being used by McAfee.  So on a hunch I launched Captivate as administrator and it launched successfully.  I added an "AdminImpersonate" shim to the icon in the startmenu so that the regular user could launch it with admin rights and it launches successfully now ...no more immediate crashes upon launching.

    Thanks Rod!

I found the conflict. Lavasoft, don't know when or how that found it's way on my computer. It's uninstalled now and Captivate is up and running. Good lesson for me to learn too. Really appreciate your help. Jennifer
