Question

Captivate 9 loads and displays off screen

  • June 17, 2016

System Particulars

  • MacBook Pro, OSX 10.11.5
  • Captivate 9 v9.0.1.320

Issue

Startup screen appears in the display's upper, left-hand corner.

When I select a project, the startup screen disappears. The Captivate menu is visible; the user interface is not visible.

Things I Have Tried

In both of the following efforts, the result yielded no solution. The issue persists.

1. CleanPreferencesMac.exe [Applications > Adobe > Adobe Captivate 8 > utils]

     A. I closed Adobe Captivate, executed this utility, and restarted my machine.

     B. Launched Adobe Captivate

2. Uninstalled and reinstalled Adobe Captivate

Other Information (May or may not be helpful)

Adobe Captivate has been on this system for a few months, and the application has operated as expected.

I'm unsure what has changed.

Any ideas about a remedy or about how to proceed with the troubleshooting effort?

Thank you for your time and your help,

Bruce.

Hi I seem to have fixed it on my mac.

Had same problem so tried reseting captivate preferrences.

1. Quit captivate.

2. Go to Applications > Captivate > utils > double click on the file "clean preferrences mac".

I was desperately trying different things when I came across the Hot fix for Adobe Captivate 9 issues

Obviously I didnt follow all steps (straight to step 6 on mac section)

see if it helps.

Was having the same issue in Captivate 2019 on an iMac. I cleared the Captivate cache and then double-clicked the CleanPreferencesMac in the Applications-->Adobe Captivate 2019-->utils folder. Together, these returned my Workspace to normal.

I have exactly the same issue as everyone else on this list on a nice brand new MBP, that has NO other display to hook up to; no 3rd party software - other than MSOffice.

Am I to understand that every time I'd like to use captivate, I have to poke around in my Mac Library? That sounds lame.

If there been any progress on this I'd be grateful - 28 days left on the trial. so no rush

Hey there everyone with this issue, just got done chatting with Adobe support, and he instructed me to:

"Please click on Finder> Then click on Go > Go to folder > type ~/library/preferences > click go > rename Adobe Captivate 9 folder to Adobe Captivate 9.old"

This did the trick for me. I'm using a macbook macOS Sierra.

This did not work for me. Still the same exact problem as described above.

I'm having the same problem, on a mac.

Things I have tried so far:

- Restart

- Hard restart

- Adjusting the resolution of the screen

- Zooming in/out

- Reinstalling the entire program

- "Show all windows" from the dock

Please let me know if you found a solution, I'm getting pretty desperate...

I'm not a Mac user, but is this a retina screen? Was this happening after installing the patch to 9.0.1? Do you clear the cache regularly?

  • Yes, the machine has a 15-inch Retina screen.
  • I clear the cache at least once per week, using a utility (CleanMyMac).
  • Regarding the 9.0.1 patch, I am uncertain about the timing (i.e., when the patch was applied).

Thank you.

You don't happen to use a displaylink or similar device to hook up multiple screens?

I was having alignment issues like that also due to the settings and scaling from the different screens

(Laptop is 4k external is 1080p so the alignment would be exactly like you are getting it)
