Captivate 9 no longer working on Mac OSX

Suddenly yesterday I was no longer able to launch Captivate 9 - quite a big deal as I use it every day all day for my job! I rebooted many times and the icon bounces a few times then stops and sometimes it shows not responding, other times nothing at all. I try force quit, but it's rarely there.

I even tried the latest patch - that made things worse, now it bounces once and gives up.

Captivate 8 still works, but I need 9 because of the complex work I'm doing.

I've installed nothing new. I'm running OSX 10.9.5 and all was fine until yesterday - I've run nothing in the way of other updates or installs.

Subs are up to date.

Any thoughts?

A complete uninstall and clean reinstall did solve the issue. So frustrating how unstable Captivate can be at times. Still it's resolved for now.

Before installing the patch did you clear the Preferences and delete the Shared Layouts and Sample projects folders?

The problem started well before I resorted to trying any patch. I'm going to uninstall completely and reinstall - though every day my employer pressures me to try and use Adapt. It's so tempting.

Do not forget to clear the Preferences and delete those folders that I mentioned! It is not done automatically even when you uninstall/reinstall and could cause issues. If you want to keep some customisation, have a look at:

BTW don't forget to clear the cache as well.
