Question

Captivate 9 quiz fails to score correctly unless I unhide Results screen.

I’ve created what I thought was a pretty simple quiz using multiple invisible shapes, used as buttons, over images. One of these buttons on each
slide is set as the correct answer and included in the quiz.

All other buttons on the slide (the wrong answers) do not score or report.

We always hide the Results screen and instead have navigation set up to take learners to either a Retry or Next Steps screen based on pass/fail criteria. We’ve done this for years with no issue. However, this quiz fails to score correctly and navigates to the Retry slide – even if all the questions are answered correctly - unless I unhide the quiz results screen.

I’ve used Captivate since it was a Macromedia product and am at the end of my rope. I’ve also had a co-worker look to see if he can figure out why this isn’t working. You are my last hope.

Three more things:

I’ve had great success with this format before. Creating a series of pop-quiz questions throughout a project instead of a single set of question slides.

There are a total of 12 questions. I can’t use hotspots as Captivate only allows 10.

I have screen captures of settings, and tried to upload the images in both .jpg and .png format but was told this is a forbidden format though the instructions don't say what format should be used.

First question: why do you not fill the shapes with the image instead of having a shape over an image?

You can insert images in the browser version of this forum, look for the image icon (there is also a video button).

Can you check the Advanced Interaction panel (F9) to see if the total score corresponds with what you expected?

Yes, this information can also be seen under the Quiz Pass or Fail settings under Preferences. My total is 100 points. I made the Results slide visible to verify what score was being given when I answered all but one question correctly and it sent me to the Retry (fail) slide. The Results screen advised I passed and then flowed to the correct Next Steps slide. However, when I hide the Results slide and answer the questions exactly the same the quiz navigates to the Retry (fail) slide. The only difference is the hide/unhide of the Results slide. This makes no sense to me as, as I stated above we always hide the Results slide in favor of navigating to a pass or fail slides.

I am unable to add .png or .jpg using the icons in this reply and do not see any other image icons.

Adding an image or a video using these buttons in the browser version of the forums:

No, the information in the Advanced Interaction panel is more complete.

Which exact version number do you use? Latest version is 9.0.2.437

Hiding the results slide should normally not mess up the result. Can you insert the quizzing system variable cpQuizInfoPassFail in a text container on the first question slide, timed for the rest of the project and always on top? Is its value changing after the last question?
