Captivate 9 restore default captions

Instead of mouse movement and a caption of Select, software simulations now result in "Incorrect, please try again" and [Click here!]. I tried restoring Defaults in Edit Preferences = fail.

    OK, was very drastic solution. Hope you didn't forget to clear the Preferences and Layouts before reinstalling?

    Maybe Clear the Preferences? That way the original Preferences folder will be restored. There is a CleanPreferences in the Utils subfolder of the installation folder. Run the one that is suited for your OS. Please: mention also the version you are using.

    I'm a bit puzzled: in Preferences you cannot reset 'content' of the captions that will appear during a software simulation. Are you sure that you are using the same Simulation mode as you did before, You can set 'style' for the different captions. The used text is in a file with rdl extension.

    Windows 8. Captivate 9.0.1.320
    Ran the CleanPreferences in the Utils subfolder. Launched Captivate and created a 4 slide Software Simulation. Mouse trail has reappeared but not the Caption "Select" in Adobe Red.

    No Global Preferences: Recording: Defaults are all blank. Selecting "Restore Defaults" results in: "A fatal error has occurred and the application is being terminated.... Please restart Adobe Captivate. Selecting "Create New Style" kills program. After Restart, Recording Defaults still all blank. Selecting "Create New Style" results in "fatal error"

    Hmm, that sounds bad. Clearing Preferences normally will solve this type of issues. Do you clear the cache regularly? Can you open the Object Style Manager, eventually before opening a project (from the welcome screen)? Are there styles for the captions?
