Captivate 9: Video playbar issue to navigate video forward or rewind

HI,

I'm using Captivate 9. Can we click anywhere on play bar so that video goes to that point allowing me to forward or reverse it.

Captivate 9 playbars look traditional where we have to drag that point showing the progress (Not sure what do they call it). I want it to be like Youtube playbar or similar. Haven't tried editing existing playbars in Flash/Animate though.

Can someone help. My customer is after my life.

Thanks in advance 🙂

Well, I tried video as an event and synchronised video for a slide.

What happens is I have to DRAG the marker on playbar regardless of skin I select. So, this is not what I want.

On the other hand, synchronised video plays well but the captivate progress bar at bottom is compulsary. My client doesn't want it that way. Playbar for video should be there but no marker should be there so that they can click anywhere on playbar and video starts from there.

I think Jeremy mention about iframe or something to control video playback. Can I request for a writeup through which I can go through.

    Thanks in advance for help.

I had double-checked on synchronized video with a default playbar and I could click to navigate to that point. That is always possible with that progress bar. I wonder what happens in your situation.

If you are talking about the playbar which appears at the bottom of the slide which can be shut off through themes > ToC then you are correct. Click anywhere and video continues from there.

Unfortunately my client wants controls just underneath the video probably by using skins. Skins don't give that liberty to click anywhere. Have to drag marker :-(

You need to change the 'skin' of the video player.  When you import your video under 'Style' there is a dropdown menu called 'Skin'.  Choose one of the skins that has a playbar counter.

    Hi Jeremy,

Thanks for your reply. I have tried skins such as haloskin, clear skin and so on. None of them allow me to directly click anywhere on the play bar. I have to drag the marker to desired position. It is such an old fashioned style. I don't know if they have improved it in 2017.

If this is the only slide, use synchronized video.

Are you talking about a cpvc-file which leads to pure video (mp4) or about a cptx-file which normally leads to an interactive movie, where the progress bar has only sense when you have a pure linear project, no branching.

Hi Lilybiri, Thanks for quick response.

I'm not sure what you are asking about but, let me try to explain what I mean.

I have inserted FLV video file on a slide. Video length is about 2 min. Imagine video autoplays. I want to click at middle of the playbar (around 1min.) to see content thereafter. Nothing happens if I click on the playbar. Instead I have to drag the marker to the position of my choice (1min. in this case). Any playbar these days may it be windows media player, VLC or Youtube; it gives me freehand to click anywhere on playbar and video continues from thereafter.

Hope I could explain the issue properly. Please let me know if you want any further information.

You mean that you inserted a video file on one slide in a cptx-project. I hope you are aware of the fact that FLV will be abandoned soon? It is Flash-based. That is off topic, but worth mentioning.

You probably inserted that video as Event video, which means it will get its own control panel and plays totally independent of Captivate. The default control panel has no progress bar, but you can choose another one in the Properties panel.

If you insert it as synchronized video it will be controlled by Captivate and you can use one of the default playbars, which has a progress bar which will behave like you want. But: that playbar is for the whole file, not just for one slide.
