Captivate 9 vs. Storyline for Responsive Projects

Does anyone think that Storyline is a better tool for responsive projects because it has a player that adjusts the layout automatically?

I hope this thread doesn't end up being a product war.  I consider both Captivate and Articulate Storyline to be both excellent authoring tools and each has features that the other lacks, etc etc.

However, before anyone gets too involved in claiming one is better than the other, I think we should all just sit on our hands for a little while longer until the next version of Captivate comes out.  If the discussion here is really intended to be measuring Storyline 3 against Captivate then it should be the version of Captivate that comes out in 2017, not Captivate 9 that it is measured against.

The next version could drastically change the comparison.

    Hi Rod, Lilybiri, Paul,

I think that we should not fight,, "one user Storyline. The last two years I have quite a big pungent  critic of Captivate, if something does not work or works poorly. I think it's normal. The software is developed, the technology also.

I'm still a big fan of this great product, I am taking it day and a day I learn new things beyond the normal work. I look forward to experimenting with new Fluid boxes, because I have hundreds of applications Captivate and I would like them later in the year gradually converted into responsive projects.

I do not see any reason to pass on the Storyline. The price is more than three times more than Captivate, the results are comparable. For me personally, it made sense to add toolset iSpring Suite and Captivate both instruments. I'm more than equipped to virtually anything. Both cost for me still half of price of Storyline / yearly.

In Captivate, can you get the player skin to appear on the right of the screen like Storyline? I see this as valuable.

I agree with Paul on the two showstopper issues in Storyline for me. Price ( $1100 USD a year-for-life) and the third party player install to play content.

This discussion is very reminiscent of the Apple vs Windows debate. I think Storyline does a brilliant job of making their interface very user friendly and inviting (much like Apple, but you absolutely pay for the simplicity) while Captivate is much more customizable and in my experience  a much more stable platform. You can throw anything at it and works well, both in build and in launch.

To make a totally baseless assumption I think Storyline appeals to the more artistic developer, while Captivate appears to be used by the more detailed, engineering oriented.

    Cheers

    Steve

I have yet to find the responsive player app in the app store. I don't think Storyline requires an additional download anymore.

Two strikes against Articulate for me

    1. The fact you need an extra player for all your users to install. Many users don't want additional software on their mobile devices
    2. The cost for new Articulate customers is very prohibitive. Captivate remains one of the best values in authoring tools. I can't wait to see what they come out with next.

Right now I believe Articulate 360 is a better tool for responsive projects. I went to the App Store and no player was there now. I'm assuming Articulate improved their product to not require the download.
