Captivate Accessibility Questions

Hello,

I've read the resources Adobe provides on Captivate accessibility, but I still have a few questions. I know how to add keyboard shortcuts to buttons, but shouldn't I be able to tab to buttons and activate them by hitting enter/return? For screen reader users, we can add the button shortcuts to the slide description, but for a mobility impaired user who needs keyboard access without a screen reader, I'm not sure how we could get them to know what keys they need to press to access various buttons.

Adding keyboard shortcuts to buttons requires you to ensure the shortcut you have created is not already in use by:

    1. The operating system

    2. The browser

    3. The adaptive technology in use (screen reader(s), etc.)

If any of the above are already using your shortcut, the action associated with #1, 2, or 3 above will be executed, not yours. Designing to "tab/enter" is the only way to ensure your buttons are selected. (text buttons have never failed me, all others... well...)

NOTE: If you're using smart shapes as buttons - they are simply not accessible. (although you can sometimes tab to them, you can't trigger them). This is a limitation that Adobe is aware of. Feel free to add your functionality request to the bug reports along with the rest of us - perhaps we'll reach critical mass and they'll fix this.
