Captivate and grading a Software Simulation

Hi,

I have to convert some older Captivate projects to HTML5 for my company. The older files all use Infosemantics' Master Widget to track/grade a user's score. In other words the Master Widget records when a user has correctly clicked on a simulated button and records that as part of their grade. Is there any way to grade a software simulation without having to use Infosemantics' Master Widget? I only ask because the Master Widget isn't compatible with HTML5. The reason we need to convert these projects is we need to make them available to our tablet/phone users. Any help you can provide, or if you can point me to an alternative solution, I would greatly appreciate it. In case you were wondering I am using Captivate 8.

Correct answer Lilybiri

Have no alternative for negative scoring, master widget was the way to go. Probably this will be possible with JS. For the multiple alternatives, you could attach the score to a 'Next' button that appears only when the user clicked one of the alternatives. If not correct, a similar button with no score could show up. Something like what I tried to explain in this post:

I love the Master widget, but never used it to grade a simulation. Do you perhaps offer multiple alternatives for the same action, in that case I understand the use of the Master widget. But if you only have clicks on buttons or typing in text, unique actions, you can just attach the score to the interactive object. Can you explain better?

Hi Lilybiri,

Thanks for your reply. I looked a little more into one of the older files I have to convert and the original author of the project used the Master Widget to add negative scoring. I wish I could take a screen shot or provide you with some kind of image, but the software is proprietary, so I have to do my best to explain what this is like. There is an image of the software and an image of F keys (function keys) on one slide that has multiple click boxes (one of which is correct and is set to move to the next slide); there is a much larger click box covering all of the incorrect F keys. This large click box is the slave the master widget uses to calculate negative scoring. Oddly this click box is also set to "include in quiz". On other projects what you assumed is correct--there are multiple alternatives for the same action. Let me know if this makes sense or if you need more info.
