Captivate and LMSs

Hi,

My company is looking into getting an LMS. One question I have been asked is is it possible for Captivate and an LMS to work together and remember how far a user has got through a module and return to that point at a later date?

For example I have a 30 slide module including question pools - the user gets to slide 20 - has to log off and go to a meeting - when they return can they start from the point in the module that they left off (slide 20)?

Thanks in advance,
Alex

Yes it's possible. Captivate has bookmark function which uses the SCORM interface.

I have used it on our corporate LMS without any problems. You need to use Captivate to make the imsmanifest and enable the reporting options in Captivate.

One issue with the bookmark function in Captivate is that the user is not asked if he/she want to return to the point where they left off, but simply just get transfered there. That is the reason why we are not using the Captivate bookmark solution because we like to give the users the choice of starting from the last point or beginning again.

Another issue is that when the user have reached the last page of the course that will always be the bookmarked page. That means that everytime a user starts the same course after completing it once they will be transfered to the last page of the course. You can fix this with a little "hack" - see more here http://www.captivate4.com/2008/11/25/reset-bookmark-in-captivate-3/

We developed our own bookmark function which we use instead. It's a flashfile which we insert in Captivate and that reports the course progress and store it in the LMS. When a user starts a course again they are asked if they want to continue or start from page 1. That is a better solution than Captivates built in function.

Thanks for your reply! Shame about the glitch, but will look at the 'hack' with our IT guys.
Thanks again!

Hi Michael,

Would it be interesting if you could share or provide us insights on how it is being done via flash?

Thanks.
