Captivate caption that can be closed out by learner

I've seen examples of this in some captivate courses: Learner clicks on a button that opens-up a text caption. The caption has an x that the learner can click to close it out. If learner does not close out, it closes out by itself when learner clicks on another button to open up another caption. The great thing about this is that it helps you maximize your real estate as each caption can appear in the same spot. How do I do that? Thanks in advance!

No problem. I'll wait patiently. And yes I do need the click box to close-out the caption. Thanks!!

    Hello,

Created an example, if you want me to send it send me a private message with an e-mail address.

    Those are the steps:

    • created 7 text captions with different texts, same dimensions and location on slide but invisible; I labeled them TC1, TC3....TC7
    • created 1 close button that will be used for all the text captions (I used a click box and an image, but you can also use a button of course); labels CBClose (for the Click Box) and SymbolClose (for the image); both are initially also invisible
    • create an advanced action to be triggered on success for the click box CBClose - it hides all Text Captions (so it can be re-used for all Text Captions and I need only one advanced action and close system), as well as CBClose and SymbolClose
    • create 7 advanced actions, one for each button, labeled Show1, Show2... Show7.  They are very similar and can quickly be created by using the duplicate functionality with few editing (to change the targeted Text Caption). I post a screenshot of the first one.

    OK?

BTW: forgot something, have a look at the Interactive Label Widget created by one of my friends: http://blog.flash-factor.com/widgets/

I do use it a lot, it would be another fancy way to achieve the same goal.

You can hide/show objects like Text Captions using rather simple advanced actions, that can be triggered by events like clicking on a a button or a click box.

You do not tell which version of Captivate you are using? Advanced actions are available from version 4 on. If you want me to write out the steps and create a sample advanced action for you, give me an exact description: how many text captions...

    Hey Lilybiri,

Thanks a bunch. I do have Captivate 5 and I would love to see the step by step of how I could achieve this. I need 7 text captions on one slide. Learner can click in any order. Each of the captions will appear in the same spot so as user clicks a button, the currently opened caption will close.

    Thanks again!!!

    Hello,

It is pretty late here (almost 11PM), will try tomorrow. Is this correct:

    • you have 7 Text Captions on a slide, initially hidden, in the same place
    • you have 7 buttons (or click boxes) that will open each a different text caption
    • Text Caption stays visible until the user clicks another button

Do you need also a click box on top of each caption to close it as you first stated? Can be done also, just want to check.

Please be a bit patient, teaching 3hrs in the morning, will try to post in the afternoon tomorrow.
