Question

captivate file 9 won't open

When I am trying to load a CPTX file that on my C-Drive

I get an error message

Adobe captivate could not open "file name" ensure that the file is not already open, is not damaged, hard disk has sufficient space etc

The file opens perfectly on another install of Captivate 9 on a colleagues computer but when I bring it back to my PC to make my edits it gives me the above error messages.

I have done a fair bit of Google research on this and it does appear to involve the .lock file.

When I go to the working PC's Adobe Captivate Cached Projects folder I do see all the cached projects. If I go into the db folder there is in fact a "already_in_use.lock" file

I thought I had the problem solved.

I simply made another  .zip file, this time EXCLUDING the .lock file.

I then renamed the ZIP file to a CPTX extension and took it back to my PC.

You guessed it...same error.

It seems like the .lock file is the culprit here but I can't figure out what I need to do next.

I'm getting the same error message. Are you using the free trial? I've wondered if that is my problem--going from free trial version at home to a licensed version at work.

Point taken. How do I correct & fix my current dilemma?

The .lock file should be in the Captivate documents folder, not in the cache folder.

The problem is that the message you got is also popping up for other reasons: corrupt fonts is one of them. I'm thinking about that, because you mention it is only happening on your system. Did you install new fonts recently?

Good day, I am getting the same message. I have not installed anything new. My version is 9.0.2.437

I have asked my IT to create a shared folder, where I save all my captivate files

Do not use that shared folder while working on a CP-file. Always work on your system, even for saving. After saving you can copy the file to the shared folder.
