Question

Captivate files don't play in Canvas

In the Canvas LMS, my Captivate projects have stopped working.  We upload to the Files area of the course and then link to the index.html file.  However, all we get is a never-ending 'loading' icon.  The HTML files play correctly from my desktop.  These are not SCORM files, just basic presentations.

Any thoughts on what might be blocking display of these files now?

I suspect it might have something to do with the Javascript.  But it all used to work a few years ago...

You are probably correct that the issue could be with Javascript.  Modern web browsers have been deprecating some JS code functions that were previously not viewed as a problem but are now viewed as unsafe.

You can use the web browser console to see the errors generated when you try to run your page in the browser.

Take a look at this web page that explains how to do it:
Fix JavaScript errors reported in the Console - Microsoft Edge Developer documentation | Microsoft Learn

Once you identify WHY the page is failing to load, you should be able to approach Canvas and ask for suggestions from their IT gurus.  They probably have a user forum (like the Captivate user forum) and that may have some JavaScript experts that are willing to help.
