Question

Captivate shell around a SCORM course

Hi all!

I have a SCORM compliant course from a vendor that includes a quiz that needs to be tracked.  I need to create a Captivate shell for this course that includes a custom introduction and conclusion (after the course). This shell also needs to be SCORM compliant.

Creating the shell is easy. But here is the big question:

QUESTION - Can my Captivate shell, that will launch the vendor created course, also track on my LMS whether or not the student passes the quiz within that vendor course?  IF so, what needs to be done within my Captivate shell?

THANK YOU FOR ANY ASSISTANCE!

Cheers,

Russ

What is the format of the vendor course? Is it a swf?

Greetings!

The files we were provided are published for SCORM LMS in both .swf and HTML5.  It looks like the original course was created in Articulate Storyline, and we do not have access to the un-published version, just the published.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,

Russ

I don't think you're going to be able to do this.  SCORM communication requires JavaScript files to work.  As far as I know, the JS files for Storyline and Captivate are different (even though they are both using Rustici SCORM drivers since Cp6).  So you cannot just dump a Storyline SWF inside a Captivate project and expect everything to be hunky dory. It's a lot more complex than that.

My advice is that you either get hold of the original Storyline source files and develop the module in that, or else redevelop the module entirely in Captivate.  Nesting one SWF inside another isn't even recommended when BOTH of them are created with Captivate, let alone when they were created with totally different authoring tools.
