Captivate stopped working

I have been using Captivate 3 since it's release without much problem, but today, I can not import any PowerPoint slides, I can't save any recordings.
I uninstalled the program and downloaded it again from the web. When I reinstalled, the same problem.

Is there something else I should have uninstalled (I used the Control panel to unintall)? When I reinstalled, I wasn't asked if I had a serial number to activate. Could there be something else that is causing the problem?I am at a complete loss.

Thanks,
Kevin

I am having a similar issue. I have had Captivate 3 running on a Windows Vista laptop for nearly a year. Lately when I try to run Captivate I would get a message stating "Captivate has stopped working". Then I would uninstall and reinstall and the app would run after the install. However, if I closed the app and tried opening it again it would say it "stopped working" again. So I would uninstall and reinstall. Now it won't run at all. This is frustrating! Does anyone have any ideas how to resolve this? I downloaded the AdobeCaptivateUpdater and when I try to run that it asks me if I want to run it, I say "ok", and it just seems to go away.
    Please help!

    Hi Kevin

You probably need to clobber the settings file. Close Captivate and open Windows Explorer. Then navigate to the following location:

    C:\Documents and Settings\??\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate

*NOTE: Replace ?? with your user name.

Delete or rename the captivate_v30.dat file, then restart Captivate. It should create a totally new file and things may begin working as mysteriously as they stopped.

    Cheers... Rick

Thanks Rick for getting back with me. I tried your suggestion, I even trashed that entire folder, but after the reinstall, it did the same thing. I can't record, or import any ppt files - even ones that I imported before.

I am waiting for a computer upgrade next week, and I may have to wait until then to figure this out. This is definitely setting my time lines back a little bit.

    Thanks again. Regards,
    Kevin
