Captivate versioning issue

We are currently working in a closed network that includes a server and 9 virgin PCs that have Capt. 8 loaded and have never had any other version installed.

While opening a cptx file (Captivate 😎 from the network, I published an html version to my C:temp drive.

I received a dialog box warning me:

Do you want to migrate this Captivate 5 version to Captivate 8?

There are functionality issues . . . blah blah!

I selected OK.

The HTML file work fine, but when I looked at the cptx file, all rollover smartshapes and functionality had corrupted.

Had to use .bak file and delete the new version.

Why would I receive a Captivate 5 warning message when it has never been loaded on these machines?

Sure is a weird problem if you've never had CP5 on those computers and ALL of these CPTX files were created with CP8.  Not sure why that would have happened.

But one thing I want to suggest is that you SHOULD NEVER open any CPTX file across a network connection or save to a network drive from within Captivate.  That's just asking for trouble.

By all means copy your CPTX files to the network drive for safekeeping.  But you should always ONLY launch file that are already on your own PC hard drive and copy them up to the network AFTER you have saved and closed down the file out of Captivate.

You may think it's never been a problem up till now. But it's the best practice if you want to ovoid project file corruption.
