Question

Capturing the user details

I am quite a new user of Captivate, currently working on an interactive training program. Is there a way of creating a login and password window at the start, where the user details can be recorded.

Any useful info would be appreciated!!

I would like to know if a user validation form will be included into Captivate 2 version.

I mean, a login-password validation form in order this information should be stored into the LMS. And the possibility that the users will be redirected to one slide or movie depending on the information subitted. For example, if the user is "John" (and the password is valid) jump to movie "movie1" and if the user is "Robert" (and the password is valid) jump to the movie "movie2"...and all of these info will be stored into the LMS.

Thanks

Hi hydrosound

I stand to be corrected here, but wouldn't this be a function of the LMS?

Sure, you could create a movie with a Text Entry Box and redirect based on the entry, but there is no way to link this to a database of logon names.

Cheers... Rick

Hello shazbud.

Welcome to the Captivate community. Are you trying to protect your Captivate movies? If so, then you can apply a password, though I have to be honest and say that I am unsure though if this can be tracked by your LMS or Adobe Breeze

1. Open the Captivate file you wish to protect
2. Choose Movie > Preferences
3. Click the Password protect movie check box and enter the password you wish to use.

It is important to note that using a SWF decomplier I would be able to hack into this though and remove the password.

There is a way of recording a username by simply creating a short answer question slide and setting the question type to short survey To do this -

1. Open the Captivate project file you want to use.
2. Choose Insert > Question slide...
3. Select Short Answer
4. In the question text field enter something like "Please enter your name to proceed"
5. Click on the Options tab
6. From the Type menu choose Survey - there are no wrong answers
7. From the reporting tab, make sure that the check box Report answers is selected.
8. Click OK.

However, it is important to note that if you cannot use the short answer question slide as a password field, as the text would still appear in the field.

You could of course create a web page and store the login information in a database table. Dreamweaver includes the ability to create pages and can insert data into a database.

HTH
