Click boxes/buttons set to "Include in Quiz" break (disable) slide navigation buttons (Captivate 8)

I've got some scenarios with branching options. They weren't originally intended to be a quiz so I built each out of simple click boxes (which was easier--I hate wrestling with quiz slides). But now the SME wants to track which options learners choose, so I tried setting them to Include in Quiz and named the Interaction IDs to be something recognizable when viewing the SCORM cmi.interactions data.

That actually seems to work EXCEPT it kills my "Back" button (a custom button with a simple jump to prev slide action), which is bad. Any ideas? I'm prepared to re-build using a quiz slide but I'm not happy about it. Plus there have been other situations where I wanted to have a random clickable on a non-quiz slide be included in the quiz but I observed this same behavior and just worked around it then. I want to win this time. Thanks.

Check your quiz settings. Do you have Backward Movement disabled in the quiz?

Can you show the quiz settings? You don't have by any chance turned on Branch aware? Or changed the Required setting?

Love it when it's easy. (it didn't occur to me that THAT setting would affect movement on a non-quiz slide but I guess marking a click box to include in quiz turns it into one.) However, now it's breaking some custom javascript so I'm still wrestling with it but getting closer. Thanks!
