Click boxes crashing safari?

I created a bunch of training that navigates by the user clicking on the right or left hand side of the screen, and this is done using a click box.  There are several screens where I have a more traditional arrow button on the left and right of screen for navigation as well.

The arrow buttons seem to work fine, but I am noticing that the click boxes are a bit hit or miss.  Much of the time safari will crash and  reset back to the home screen when these click boxes that I have set up for navigation are used.

I have not noticed this problem testing in chrome or safari on my iPad, but I had my IT push a web app shortcut (which automatically defaults to safari with the viewport set to minimal, so to the user it feels like an app).

Any thoughts here?  I can go back and remove all the click box navigation if needed, but is frustrating as all worked well until I launch from a home screen icon on iphone.

Also I did read somewhere that the click sound does not always play with with HTML5 and I have disabled it throughout the slides.

Thanks-

Brian
