Question

Complete/Incomplete

Software is Captivate 4

LMS is WBT Manager

I am having several issues with a course I created and am wondering if anyone has run into the same problems and could possibly know of a solution. There are actually several things going on but I am thinking they are probably all related to the same problem.

The symptoms are: 1. If you go partially through the course and close it out, it does not mark the course as incomplete. 2. If you don't finish the course the first time you go into it, the next time you open the course, you can just close it without finishing the course and it will get marked as completed. 3. The only time the course will truly renew for a student is if they have actually gone through the entire course. Once it gets marked as completed (unless you've gone all the way to the end), if you renew it, it still acts as if it has not renewed ( it will go to the last page viewed when opened the last time, it will mark completed if you close out before reaching the end).

The way the course is set up is: there are no quiz questions, there is a button on the second to last page that when clicked assigns the student 100 points, enable reporting is turned on, SCORM 1.2, Report Status=complete/incomplete, Report to LMS as=percent, Report data=quiz results and slide views, slide view completion is set to 100%, Reporting level=interactions and score, and in the manifest, mastery score is set to 80.

The very last page has a button to give the student a choice to go back to the beginning, the slide lasts for 30 seconds (requested by the client to give students time to decide if they want to go back and review the course) and then closes the module.

I would really appreciate any ideas or suggestions as to what could be the problem and if I am dealing with just one problem or actually dealing with several different problems. Thanks in advance for anytime and advice I can receive.

Hi

I had similar problems.  It can be a number of things:

Wrong version of Java which is needed to send information to your LMS

SCORM adapters sitting at wromg level

Thank you so much for responding!

I am still struggling with this issue, I have tried so many different things and nothing has worked. What version of Java should I be using? I am new to this and don't have a complete understanding of how everything works. Not sure what you mean about the SCORM either, could you please explain?

The problem has been solved and I want to share the solution in case anyone out there is running into the same problem. There were two settings in the LMS that needed to be changed. One - The menu style needs to be set for API support. Two - The mastery score field on the LMS needs to be left blank. On my courses this field had a zero in it, which was causing the course to get marked as completed when it was not completed.

Lesson learned: If you are trying all the different settings in Captivate and nothing you do has any impact on how the course behaves, look at the LMS.
