Completion Criteria Question

I have a project that I am working on that includes the following:

  1. One sequencing question
  2. A software simulation demonstration
  3. A hands-on software simulation training

Some notes:

  • The sequence question is required, but completing it successfully is not required for completion.
  • The project will be hosted on our LMS.

After completing the question, the learner is taken to a menu slide, where s/he can choose to either view the demonstration or attempt the hands-on simulation. At the end of both the demo and the simulation there is a button that will take the learner back to a new page giving them the option to complete the portion that they did not complete. For example, when I complete the demo, I am taken to a page giving me the option to complete the simulation, and vice versa. (That's probably a long-winded way of describing some branching; hope it wasn't too convoluted.) In other words, the learner is not required to complete both the demo and the simulation. S/he is only required to complete either the demo or the simulation.

The option to complete both is obviously available, but I want the learner to get credit if s/he only chooses to complete one.

In Lectora, there was an action/variable combination that I can set to mark the lesson complete. Is there a similar function in Captivate? Or would setting the Success/Completion Criteria > Slide Views to 70 slides suffice?

Or...

Can I add an Exit button to mark the lesson complete?

I would use indeed the Exit button on the options slide, and give it a score that is higher than the score on the sequence quiz slide. Use a passing score equal to the score of the Exit button. Since the sequence slide has to be visited and the question has to be answered, be sure to take out the Playbar (Quiz Preferences has that option), keep only the Submit button on that quiz slide. You also have to be sure that the sequence slide IS visited. For that reason I would largely prefer to replace the default playbar by custom navigation, at least until the sequence slide has been finished.

BTW Advanced Interaction panel (F9) is not very well known, but a great way to see all scored objects and quiz slides, as well as interactions.

    You could score the buttons that are at the end of the hands on or demo sections. Score them at 10 pts and set the completion criteria to 10 pts.

      I'm not completely versed with the "points" concept. Is that simply a matter of opting to Include in Quiz in the Properties menu?

      Do I need to also select ​Add to Total​ and/or ​Report Answers?

      Sure, because you want to have that score part of the Passing score.

      Check Advanced Interaction panel (F9). The total score showing there is the one that will be transmitted to the LMS and used to test if the learner succeeded or not.
