Compressed Data Files - Captivate 5.5

I upgraded from Captivate 4 to Captivate 5.5 in the past few months. When working with the Captivate files, I work with them off of a local drive. I've noticed in the past few weeks that when I open a Captivate file, Captivate creates another folder on my local drive with compressed data, and this folder contains compressed data, objects, and uncompressed data .cpd files. When I archive these files, they don't seem to affect me being able to open the .cptx file.

So, my thought is that I am OK to delete these files. I'm wondering if anyone could help me out though to tell me if I am correct with thinking that I don't need these files, and I can just delete them? And, if I don't need them, can I change a setting in Captivate to stop them from generating? If I do need them, can I change a setting in Captivate to specify where they should be saved?

that looks like the project cache files.

You can change its location in Edit > Preferences > General Settings

as an example, mine is:  C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\My Documents\Adobe Captivate Cached Projects

the .cptx file itself is a compressed archive that stores all the assets for your project in that same .cpd extension.  What is the folder and path name where these new files are showing up?

Captivate is creating a separate folder on my desktop to store the new files.
