Question

Copy slides from one project to another

Hello all,

I had to make a lot of changes to a presentation, so decided to just go back and redo the entire thing. However, there are a couple of "slides" in the original project that I would like to copy over into the new project. I see that I can Copy Slide, but in the other project, there is no way to Paste Object of Paste Slide.

Am I overlooking something?

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration in this matter!

Jason

Hi Jason,

Have you tried importing those two slides instead of copying them from one project to another? To do this you would choose File > Import > Slides / Objects. Then in the Import Project dialog box you can choose which slides you want to bring in to the current project.

If the slides still won't import then it might be an indication that your original project might of become corrupted. Having said that, many times when I haven't be able to copy / paste slides I have found that simply closing Captivate and reopening the original project file has enabled me to then copy / paste to a new file.

As a last resort you could try deleting the .dat file found via the following path.
C:\Documents and Settings\User\Name\Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Captivate

Next time you load Captivate, the application will create a fresh .dat file. Performing this exercise has been known to solve some of the problems us Captivate users experience.

Mark,

I just Imported the "slides" (which were actually changes to a demonstration of an application that I had to re-record because the login screen changed), and it worked....sort of.

Now the text that I typed in during the recording of the demonstration is either truncated or not inside the text box. It was fine in the demo that I recorded, but when I imported into the old project (to replace the oldscreens) is when I get the problems. Also, on the web page that I was recording, there are links on the left hand side of the screen (which are what changed), and they don't appear, nor does the background color from the web site.

I am worried that I am going to have to re-record everything, and then add all of my callouts again. It took a few days to do it last time, and I was hoping that doing it this way would only take a few minutes.

if you can think of anything that may have caused these issues, or if I overlooked anything, please let me know.

I appreciate you taking the time to assist me with this!

Jason
