Corrupt closed captions?

Anyone run into this one?

I'm in CP6 running a CP7 file (our upgrade to CP7 is in progress).  If I modify closed captions from a slide I copied, it also changes the captions on the original slide.  My current workaround is to add captions AFTER i've created all my slides...or to always use "New Slide" feature.

My captivate file is 96 MB and I'm guessing there are corruptiong issues going on.  It would be nice if files didn't get corrupt in the first place!

Thanks for the tip.  Let me elaborate on your steps to explain what worked for me.

    1.  Duplicate the sldie

    2.  Go to the duplicated slide

    3.  Click Text-to-Speech

    4.  Click the +  button

    5.  Click Save

    6.  (Still on the duplicated slide...)   Delete any caption rows that were the same as the original slide.  (if you try to edit these rows, it still changes the original slide)

    7.  Modify the new row created in the Text-to-speech window.

It did break the link, but only for new rows, not the original rows in the duplicated slide.

I think I found the final answer.  I simply had to remove the text to speech audio on the 2nd slide. After removing the audio, I could edit, delete, and add text on the 2nd slide without it auto-updating on the 1st slide.

It is designed in the same way.Whenever you change closed caption text on copied or duplicated slide ,it gets reflected in original slide too.Can you let me know your use case

Yes, that is what is happening to me.  Should I delete the captions on the copied slide and then add new captions...instead of editing the text on the copied slide?

Add new captions using the + button in the Text to speech window once and the link will be broken. Not sure if it is a bug, but if it is, let us call it a useful bug.

Captivate has usually been BACKWARD compatible (meaning each new Captivate versions can open files from at least a few previous versions) but not FORWARD compatible (meaning that older versions cannot open files from newer versions).

    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-troubleshooting/backward-forward-compatibility

However, with Captivate 7 Adobe broke with this long-running convention and allowed Cp6 to open Cp7 files.  However, they are claiming it is "not recommended".

You may be running into one of the issues that results from pursuing this "not recommended" practice.

I tried to reproduce the issue and I noticed a bug.

    Here is what I did.

    1. Create a brand new file in CP 7.0.1.237 with just one slide and close caption, and save it.
    2. Open this file in CP 6.0.1.240. and save it with a different name,
    3. Copy and paste the slide in CP 6.0.1.240. It fails. The slide is copied, but when I click paste (both right-click and the Edit menu), nothing happens.

    Duplicating a slide works though.

Now, coming to the issue mentioned here, in CP 6 I duplicated the slide 1 which originally had closed caption. On the slide 2, I added some additonal text to the caption. But it did not affect the original slide.

Would be great if somebody else can also test it once and confirm. We can then log a bug report.
