Could not open .cp file in Captivate 5.5

Hi all,

I am now going to edit more than 30 files with ".cp" extension with Captivate 5.5 installed in my PC, the files are created in year 2011 and possibility created using previous version of Captivate.

However it warned me that Captivate could not open the files

As far as I know, Captivate 5.5 should be able to open previous version files, I searched on the web and most answers are referring to the link (http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-troubleshooting/recover-corrupt-project) but I do not have any locked, backup or cache files, I suspect the files are not corrupted since I could not open all the files.

Would like to know if there is any suggestion for my case?

Really thanks!

5.5 or 5 can open cp-files normally if they were not corrupted and didn't use AS2. Actionscript 2 is no longer supported since 5. Bit strange '2011' because cp-extension disappeared earlier. Is there no way to check in that 'earlier' version?

Oh, so I could only try to get previous version of Captivate to open those files but not my 5.5 version.

Is that possible to convert AS2 projects to be opened by Captivate 5.5 by "save as" using intermediate versions (e.g. Captivate 3)?

Sorry, but it has never be possible to save as a previous version in Captivate.

Captivate IS indeed backward compatible but only usually for a couple of versions.  If your files were indeed created with Cp2 or Cp3 then you may find Cp5.5 won't stretch that far back.
