CP5.5: Play CBT in Overhead Projector - What's a Good Slide Size?

We are in the process of converting all of our PPT training into CBTs using CP5.5.

I tried 1024 x 768 for the slide size but it was too large on the overhead projector.

What slide size should I aim for so that it fits on the screen?

    Hi there

I believe that an overhead projector typically assumes 1024x768. I use dual overheads at the church where I'm a media jockey and that's the size those use. I might imagine that's quite common as they were just installed last January.

However, Captivate tosses a wrinkle in the mix by adding another number of pixels to the height. This is done in order to make room for a playback control below the main part of the movie. Additionally, when you are using a browser to present the Captivate movie, you also need to account for the area reserved for the right scrollbar. Not only that, but again in a browser you also need to subtract pixels to account for the Menu bar, toolbars and Status bar.

How exactly are you presenting the Captivate?

    Cheers... Rick

We are planning to possibly present the training in Internet Explorer using an overhead projector at other sites. I forgot about the borders and the playbar on the bottom so I suppose that going down to 1024 x 576 (second lowest size in CP5.5) might work?

We also are planning to have two 60" screens in our own training room at work. How do you think it will look on screens that large?

    Hello,

As Rick explains it is not that simple. Do you use a playbar? That means at least adding 19 pixels to the height. Do you use a TOC? That means at least extra 250 pixels in the width. In which browser or even LMS will you deploy? That means extra pixels as well. You have to take the time to measure what will be added and then decide in which resolution you will develop the CP-file.

Screen size doesn't matter that much, it is the resolution that is important. Typically present computer screens, starting at a size of 22" and above most have the same resolution (1920x1080). And you have to see how they present on that big screens, because every pixel is a lot larger.
