Question

Cp5 - Pasting text from Notepad into a text box

I posted this message in the "Getting Started Forum" but there isn't a whole lot of activity in that forum.

Hopefully someone can help me because I have a lot of text to paste into a lesson.

This  seems like such an elementary requirement and I am almost certain that I  have done this before but...for some reason, copying text from Windows  Notepad into a Captivate 5 text box just isn't working today.

Basically, the paste option is simply not available!

Yes, I can copy paste into other applications; Captivate is the only application that is blocking this Windows function.

If  I insert a Text Entry Box, I am able to paste single lines of text  (from Notepad) but obviously this isn't going to work as a text box.

Is this by design or has something gone haywire?

Question, how do I get pre-written text (i.e. from Notepad) into Captivate?

Thanks

I previously stated, "Additionally, Right-Click mouse (inside the text caption) should also offer these options as per the Windows standard."

I just realized that was incorrect. The right-click context menu (with copy/paste, etc.) options does show up, however, I have Captivate on my secondary monitor (of a two monitor computer) and the menu shows up (almost unnoticed) on the primary monitor.

Since this issue plagues a number of other applications, I wonder if this is a Windows fault or the applications?

Thank you to all for your assistance.

Some graphic cards/drivers handle multiple screens differently.

Are your two screens set up as a single desktop? Or two separate

screens? If the taskbar spreads across both screens, then they are

being viewed as a single monitor/screen/desktop by the graphic card.

It's been a while since I've used a system that would not let you

change that to two screens. That setting may fix your issue.

Shawn,

I have had that happen to me too. I am always copying and pasting into my Captivate projects. But sometimes the paste option is just not available. What I have done, is to save everything and close the application and start it again. Seems there's a lot of little irritating things like that with Captivate, that's corrected with a restart. Hope this helps!

Thanks Linda, see my previous reply.

I believe I now see a pattern in how Captivate 5 handles paste. I had forgotten about this oddity.

I will check to see if this is also a problem in Captivate 5.5.

I copy/paste text from Notepad in to Captivate Captions all the time.

I can copy/paste from Word and PowerPoint too.

But do you mean Captions or something else? 'text box' is sort of

generic and open to interpretation.

I meant text captions as in:

Insert / Standard Objects / Text Caption (or Shift Control C)
Select caption for text entry
Shift Insert OR Edit / Paste (or Control V)

What I was observing was that Shift Insert did not work and by selecting the Edit pull-down menu, the Paste option also was not available.

BUT next to Paste, the hint shows Control V

Control V works (and consistently)! :-)

I can only interpret this as a bug in Captivate! Because the Edit Paste should be available (highlighted) and the Windows function Shift Insert should also work. Additionally, Right-Click mouse (inside the text caption) should also offer these options as per the Windows standard.

Anyhow, I am happy now! Thanks so much for your reply. Because you told me that it works, you gave me hope to try other ideas! :-)

Ahhh - I understand. Control+v works in pretty much every program, so

I never use menu options for paste. Guess that's why I never noticed.

Glad you got it figured.
