CP5 - screen captures are 4mb , why so large

Hello all,

I just upgraded to CP5 and when I recorded something in the Automatic mode I noticed afterwards these slide background images in the library. they are 4mb a piece. I have been looking around the settings and Preferences to see if I could change this. these files are quiet large.

Is there a way to influence this?

Thanks and have a good weekend

Peter

    Hello,

To add to Rod's answer: if you really want to limit that filesize, choose the lowest resolution possible for your capture. I think your capture resolution was at larger than 1024x768, not? When captured at 970x600 the background images are about 2,4Mb large. But it is indeed the resulting filesize of the published SWF that is important, and this can be influenced by the slide quality and audio quality settings.

In addition to that, if you want the comprehensive information as to how one can balance output's file-size and quality, then please go through these blog posts:

Thank you all for your replies. yes I was creating a recording at 1920 x 1600 resolution and I can change that. One of my reasons for concern was that we store all of the material on a company drive, so making things smaller makes downloading or copying it faster.

    Thanks again

Captivate stores the captures at highest resolution but outputs them in the SWF at compressed sizes which are much smaller.  You don't need to worry that these images in the library are going to mean your final output is too heavy.
